An Adventist couple’s inspiring journey from Facebook to the baptistery
In today’s digital era, a heartwarming story of friendship and faith unfolded between two families from different cities in the Philippines, bridging the geographical gap.
Pepito and Lhyne Guisando, a couple from the province of Bohol in central Philippines, began to share uplifting Facebook posts showcasing their Adventist faith — images of them in coordinated outfits along with inspiring Bible verses. Meanwhile, Mario Bracho, a friend facing life’s trials in Manila — from business struggles to family strife — stumbled upon their posts and was deeply moved by their unwavering faith and uplifting words, prompting him to reach out to Lhyne.
A casual online conversation in May 2023 ignited Mario’s curiosity about Adventist beliefs, particularly the significance of the seventh-day Sabbath. Despite the geographical distance, Mario’s eagerness to delve deeper into this newfound interest led him to seek out a local Seventh-day Adventist church with the help of Lhyne and some online resources.
Mario and his family became regular visitors to the church, immersing themselves in studying the Scriptures. Their faith blossomed, resulting in positive changes in their lives. They abandoned harmful habits like gambling and drinking, and their family grew closer than ever. Over time, their faith journey bore fruit, leading to personal growth and a commitment to returning their tithes and giving of offerings.
Their journey as Bible students culminated in a meaningful baptism ceremony on December 16, 2023, where Mario and his wife, Irma, and his youngest daughter, Ermalyn, publicly affirmed their commitment to accepting Christ as their personal Savior at Novaliches Seventh-day Adventist Church in Quezon City, Philippines.
Lhyne, a first-grade teacher at a school in Talibon, Bohol, and Pepito, the principal of Ubay Adventist Elementary School, expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to introduce Christ to Mario and his family. They emphasized the importance of spreading love and hope, even amidst life’s busyness.
Despite the physical distance, the bond between the two families has remained strong through online communication and unwavering support.
Their inspiring story reminds us of the power of friendship and faith, illuminating even the darkest times. As Galatians 6:9 reminds us, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (NIV).
