Honorees receive a token of appreciation as a symbol of their willingness to do mission.
The Malaysia Union Mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church (MAUM) recently opened its 2024 year-end meetings with a special ceremony to honor lay member delegates who, according to regional church leaders, have demonstrated exemplary dedication to the mission of the church.
Each honoree received a token of appreciation — a sturdy carry-on bag — in alignment with the global church’s theme, “I Will Go.” This gift serves as a constant reminder of their readiness to serve wherever God calls them, regional church leaders said.
“This gesture is a small but meaningful way to acknowledge their tireless efforts and dedication,” MAUM president Abel Bana said. “These lay members embody the spirit of the ‘I Will Go’ initiative, and their contributions to the organized work of the church are truly inspiring.”
Among the lay members honored during the meeting was Frisco Daniel, recognized for his dynamic leadership and unwavering dedication to youth ministry in Malaysia. “As a passionate advocate for empowering young people to embrace their faith, Frisco has inspired many to take active roles in church initiatives,” church leaders said. “His efforts to nurture the next generation align perfectly with the church’s mission, and he will proudly represent MAUM youth at the upcoming General Conference Session.”
Church leaders also recognized Daniel Victor, an IT specialist and local church elder, for his dual roles as a technology innovator and a mentor to young leaders. Serving as one of the Master Guide coordinators for the church’s Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD), “Daniel’s expertise has been instrumental in leveraging technology to enhance ministry outreach while nurturing youth in their spiritual and personal growth.”
Donny Liew, a retired finance officer from Shell Global, “exemplifies steadfast commitment to God’s work in his retirement years,” church leaders added. “His unwavering faith and active support of the church’s mission reflect a lifetime of service dedicated to advancing the gospel and building the faith community.”
Church leaders recognized one of the honorees “for demonstrating a quiet yet profound impact through humble service and unwavering dedication in a unique and influential setting.” They explained, “His life reflects the essence of Christ’s love, lived out daily through acts of faith and integrity. His example serves as an inspiration to all, showcasing how even in the most unlikely circumstances, one can be a powerful witness to God’s grace and truth.”
According to MAUM leaders, the 2024 honorees “serve as shining examples of how lay members can use their unique talents, professions, and life experiences to contribute meaningfully to the mission of the church. Their dedication and faith inspire others to embrace their roles in God’s work, no matter their circumstances.” Each of these lay members has significantly impacted their respective ministries and communities, showcasing the important role of lay involvement in the church’s mission, they said.
Speaking on behalf of the honorees, Daniel emphasized that “this recognition is not about us — it’s about what God can do through willing hearts.” He added that “the carry-on luggage symbolizes our readiness to go wherever He leads, and we are humbled to be part of this powerful movement.”
SSD president Roger Caderma, who was present at the meetings, commended the honorees for their dedication. “Members like you strengthen the church. Your commitment and faithfulness inspire all of us to press forward in the mission,” he said.
