Initiative seeks to tackle the shortage of nurses by providing more training options.
AdventHealth University is expanding its whole-person nursing education model to Tampa, Florida, United States, with classes beginning in January 2025.
AdventHealth University Tampa will offer an Associate of Science in Nursing degree to nursing students each fall and spring trimester. The associate’s degree can be completed in as little as 20 months, providing nursing students with the confidence and competence to successfully complete their licensing exam (NCLEX-RN) and smoothly transition to practice as a registered nurse.
“We are pleased to expand access to high-quality nursing education in Florida, providing an exceptional opportunity to those who feel called to practice health care as a ministry,” C. Josef Ghosn, president of AdventHealth University, said. “Our mission through AdventHealth University Tampa is to develop highly skilled professionals who live the healing values of Christ.”
AdventHealth University Tampa is an extension of AdventHealth University, a private Christian university noted for the smallest faculty-to-student ratio in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Education.
The site will bring 28 faculty and support staff jobs to the Tampa Bay area in the first year.
According to the Florida Hospital Association, the state faces a nursing shortage of 59,000 nurses by 2035 if innovative solutions, including providing more ways for youth and adults to become nurses, are not swiftly implemented. AdventHealth University Tampa is committed to playing a vital and immediate role in helping to stem the national and local nursing shortfall.
“AdventHealth is thrilled to have access to its own university, teaching compassionate, whole-person care, right here in our community,” said David Ottati, president and CEO of AdventHealth West Florida Division. “We look forward to many opportunities to collaborate and develop thoughtful and highly skilled health-care workers of tomorrow.”
